It’s the first official weekend of summer. Kick it off by watching the sunset at the Detroit Zoo, checking out some handmade glass at the Michigan Glass Project Art, Glass and Music Festival in Detroit, or heading to Log Cabin Day at Palmer Park in Detroit.  

Plus, Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill hosts its annual Strawberry Festival and the Ford Fireworks return ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. See what else is coming up around town on “One Detroit Weekend” with contributor Peter Whorf of 90.9 WRCJ.

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Detroit Zoo hosts Sunset at the Zoo from 7-11 p.m. on June 21. Attendees can enjoy refreshments, entertainment, an auction and a look at the animal habitats at night. 
  • The 2024 Michigan Glass Project Art Glass & Music Festival takes place at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit June 21-23. The festival features more than 100 glass artists.  
  • Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill in Armada hosts its annual Strawberry Festival on June 22, featuring strawberry samplings, kid’s activities, line dancing and a fireworks display at night.  
  • The People for Palmer Park invite visitors to Palmer Park in Detroit for Log Cabin Day on June 23. The event includes crafts like basket and flag making, history lessons and more. 
  • The annual Ford Fireworks organized by The Parade Company returns to Hart Plaza in Detroit on June 24. The fireworks show will be visible over the Detroit River. 
  • The 59th annual Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival takes place in downtown New Baltimore, featuring a parade, the Miss Bay-Rama Pageant, kid’s activities, the Bay-Rama Fireworks Show and more. 
  • The Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit hosts the World Ballet Festival June 21-23 with special guests Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia from the New York City Ballet. 
  • The Kylyn APIA Arts & Culture Festival presents the workshop “Stories We’re Told, Stories We Tell” at the Ann Arbor District Library downtown branch on June 23.
