Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15 – Oct. 15, with a salsa dance party at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms this weekend. There are also some weekend activities to get into the fall spirit like Canterbury Village’s Oktoberfest and Frankenfest at the Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit. 

Plus, get your arts and culture fix with Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Detroit Opera House and Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party at Little Caesars Arena. Contributors Cecelia Sharpe and Dave Wagner of 90.9 WRCJ share some events coming up around town this weekend. 

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Black Food and Wine Experience hosts the Black Food and Beverage Hospitality Summit on Sept. 13 at One Campus Martius in downtown Detroit. 
  • Frankenfest takes place on Sept. 14 at the Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit. It features a variety of spooky attractions alongside several artists, crafters and jewelry makers.  
  • Canterbury Village in Lake Orion hosts Oktoberfest Sept. 14-15 featuring Alpen-inspired food and drinks, live music, traditional Oktoberfest games and more.  
  • The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the YA Salsa Dance Party on Sept. 15. The event includes live music from Armando Vega and Dj Fercho. 
  • Broadway in Detroit brings the award-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical to the Detroit Opera House Sept. 18 – Oct. 6.
  • Disney on Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit Sept. 19-22. The performance includes characters from “Frozen,” “Aladdin,” “Toy Story,” “The Little Mermaid,” and more. 
  • The Milford Business Association hosts the 39th Milford Car Show on Sept. 15 in downtown Milford. The event also includes access to local shops and restaurants and a historic home tour. 
  • Asam Acres in Tecumseh hosts its Cows and Coffee event Sept. 14-15 where visitors can enjoy fresh coffee while petting, feeding and cuddling with the farm’s cows.
