The first weekend of August is here. Start the month by celebrating with good food and live music performances at Blues, Brews, and Barbecue in Westland or the annual Dearborn Homecoming Festival.

Plus, check out work from local artists at the Belle Isle Art Fair or Live at Five at the Northville Art House. And Sistah’s Braid Too! hosts a hair, fashion, and vendor expo in Detroit.

Contributors Peter Whorf and Dave Wagner from 90.9 WRCJ share what’s in store in Metro Detroit this weekend and beyond in this week’s “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events:

  • The Northville Art House will host “Live at Five,” on Friday, August 2, showcasing an exhibition, live music, and refreshments. Get a chance to talk with the local artists whose work will be featured.
  • The city of Westland hosts Blues, Brews, and Barbecue from August 2-3. Head to Thomas H. Brown Central Park for live blues music, a wide array of food from vendors and food trucks, plus ice-cold brews from the beer tent.
  • In partnership with Wayne State University, American Indian Health and Family Services invites the public to Pow Wow in the D, taking place Saturday, August 3 at the Wayne State Soccer Field.  The event will be a celebration and acknowledgement of Native American culture.
  • The 43rd annual Dearborn Homecoming Festival happens August 2-4 at Ford Field Park. There’ll be live performances from The Verve Pipe, All-American Rejects, and Kylie Morgan. Plus, carnival rides, food and beverages, and a fireworks display.
  • Sistah’s Braid Too! in Detroit will host a hair, fashion, and vendor expo on Saturday, August 3. The event will feature hair care workshops, live demonstrations, entertainment and food, vendor marketplace, and more.
