This weekend, the summer festival season continues with the Ribs R&B Music Festival in Detroit, the Sunflower Festival in Belleville and the 27th annual Back to School Festival in Detroit. Also, the city of Dundee celebrates its bicentennial.

Plus, don’t miss Detroit PBS Kids’ Be My Neighbor Day in Detroit, Patio Night at the Flint Institute of Arts and more. One Detroit contributor Dave Wagner of 90.9 WRCJ shares some events for you to enjoy this weekend on “One Detroit Weekend.” 

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Flint Institute of Arts hosts Patio Night on Aug. 9, featuring live music and food and drink specials. The event is free to the public. 
  • The Ribs R&B Music Festival Weekend takes place in Detroit’s Hart Plaza Aug. 9-11, featuring barbeque tastings as well as R&B artists Glenn Jones and Adina Howard.  
  • The city of Dundee celebrates its bicentennial Aug. 9-11. The weekend celebration includes pickleball tournaments, historical scavenger hunts, monster truck rides and more. 
  • The Antique Yard Sale Trail takes place Aug. 9-11 along Michigan’s thumb coast. Attendees can shop for antiques along 150 miles of Michigan’s scenic waterfront on M29 and M25 highways. 
  • DeBuck’s Family Farm in Belleville hosts its Sunflower Festival Aug. 9-25. The event includes refreshments, photo opportunities among the sunflowers, family-friendly activities and more. 
  • Greater Grace Temple in Detroit hosts its 27th annual Back to School Festival on Aug. 13, which includes carnival games and rides, free vision screenings and eyeglasses, backpacks, immunizations, school supplies giveaways and more. 
  • Detroit PBS Kids’ and the Michigan Learning Channel host Be My Neighbor Day Aug. 14 at Eastern Market’s Shed 5. The event includes free resources for families and a dance party with Daniel Tiger.  
  • The Farmington Farmers Market takes place at the Sundquist Pavilion on Saturdays through November 2. Upcoming events include a corn roast, the bicentennial beer celebration, an ice cream social, a senior health fair and more.
